20210907 ONXL day 5

131k with 1,754m of climbing. Left Maynooth by 8am. For breakfast had a awesome veg omelet at Dave’s Place in Bancroft. The Hasty Highlander “optional” loop had lots of very soft sand, with lots of climbs, so it took us a long time. This loop section absolutely needs fat mtb tires. The Old Hasting Road into Ormsby was closed for construction so we took the hwy bypass. Hal and I have agreed that we stop by 6pm so we can setup camp and eat before dark. So near 6pm we we camped in pretty roadside picnic area on Robinson Lake. We had a quick nude dip in the lake to wash up. We then had a yummy dinner by mixing together dehydrated Caribbean Curry, bulgar & quinoa and noodle soup plus having the second half of a Subway sandwich bought hours earlier in Bancroft. Setup our tents beneath the large picnic shelter so we won’t get wet in the heavy rain that started about 8pm.
