20210910 ONXL day 8

The ride today from Calabogie ON to Shawville QC, was only 112k, with 1,114m of climbing. This was because my severe shoulder pain necessitated stopping at a pharmacy in Renfrew for almost three hours to get some prescription strength Diclofenac 5% nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (double the strength of Voltaren extra strength that I had been using). I was lucky to be able to contact and get my doctor to fax the prescription to the pharmacy and for them to make it up so quickly. With the Diclofenac 5% the second part of today’s ride was about half as painful.

While in Renfrew I visited Martin’s Cycle and Small Engine Shop. Sue Martin (a sweet 80 plus lady) apologized that due to covid she didn’t have the hirise bar stem I wanted (to take weight off my shoulder) but did have the Muck Off ceramic wet lube that I wanted.

Entering Shawville I caught up with Angela and Ian, a backpacking couple that live very close to me. We had dinner together on the patio. To enter we had to either show the Quebec Vaccine Passport or show proof of our second vaccine shot. I had my vaccine shot receipt saved on my phone and helped Angela and Ian find theirs.

After dinner we camped for free in the town’s park, where each site had electricity, water and a picnic table and there were toilets.

Angela and Ian accidently set off their bear spray (as the safety pin was lost) and had to wipe down everything in their tent.
