Left Shawville 10am after sleeping in, having a huge breakfast and buying flip flops as I lost mine two days ago. My goal was Gracefield 128k and sleeping in a tepee at a private campground.
Said goodbye to new bikepacking friends Angela and Ian. Last night they triggered their bear spray (as the safety pin was lost) contaminating their tent and so they were going to stay a while to buy a new tent from the local Canadian Tire so they could continue their trip.
On the bike I felt the pain in my shoulder but with the prescription Voltaren it was dull and I hoped manageable. However, as the day progress it became more painful. It was better than with the extra strength Voltaren, but still required many breaks to stretch and apply more prescription Voltaren.
For lunch I ate an egg burrito that I bought at breakfast, washed down with a caffeine energy drink.
Despite the pain the Log Driver’s Waltz (LDW) route was enjoyable with a mixture of dirt roads and rail trail through bucolic farmland and forests.
QC certainly knows how to build and maintain real bicycle rail trail. Great surface, many rest stops with benches and toilets, and some with tools and stand.
Made Gracefield. Shoulder painful so took route noted shortcut so 115k vs 128k.
Staying in a private campground in my tent. Had a shower and used their dryer to dry my clothes. Didn’t wash them as I ran out of change. For dinner made a mixture of bulgar and quinoa plus tuna plus trail mix. Yummy.
Tomorrow’s goal is Wakefield for 132k if my shoulder cooperates.
