Sunday August 13th 9am: Road and Gravel Ride Loop from Sawdust City Brewery in Gravenhurst.

Even though rain was forecast I decided to do my planned ride and I’m glad I did!

I parked at my route’s start/finish at Sawdust City Brewery in Gravenhurst. Thanks SCB for letting cyclists park our vehicle in your parking lot.

There was a light rain so I put my rain jacket on and headed out of Gravenhurst on Hwy 169 north to Torrance. Hwy 169 is enjoyable to ride as it has paved shoulders, good surface, undulating hills and nice views on either side of lakes and forest.

I did have one oncoming stupid motorist who passed several cars and came very close to me.

At Torrance I turned onto Southwood Road and seeing about a dozen bicycles at Clear Lake Brewery decided to drop in and say hi. So glad I did, as I met nice folk from the Orillia Triathlon group who do several weekly road rides. They added me to their WhatsApp group so I can get notices about and join their future rides.

After they finished their refuel break I joined their fast pack ride (in the rain) down Southwood Drive, until I turned off at the Old Stone Road. Note to self…need a road bike to make it easier to keep up to this group.

I enjoyed riding the rough Old Stone Road, which is part of a historical wagon route between Gravenhurst and Bala. Got wet riding through a small creek crossing.

After about 6kms of rock and gravel I was on paved North Muldrew Lake Road and soon back at the Sawdust City Brewery in Gravenhurst.
