I rode 107 km today for a total of 1178 km. On the route I’m at 1186 km with 1126 km left to Bucharest: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42554061
This morning my right hip hurt walking enough that I thought I might be using a cane soon! Luckily it isn’t hurting yet on the bike.
Today the headwind was really tough all day. And there were two hard and one brutally steep and long climbs.
However, the roads were quiet, not too rough, and there were nice views of the Danube.
In the morning I went into a pothole that punctured my tire. The puncture was small but the tubeless tire sealant would not seal the hole. I eventually put a Stan’s plug in the hole and put a 2 ounce bottle of Stan’s sealant in as well. It stopped the leak and held for the rest of the day! But I did lose an hour.
Stopped and staying at Hotel Gold in Nikolo. It is the only hotel now. Large but has seen better days. But the person who greeted me was very helpful at reception, in the restaurant, and suggesting I see The Eliya Fountain (160-180 AD), which I did. I also met Plamen Starev, who has key positions at the Bulgarian Association and World Federation of Travel Writers and Journalists. I of course introduced him to Anneli.
Looking forward to see what the Danube River Trail brings tomorrow.
Cheers…Greg
